Our Rotarians Once Again Outdid Themselves!

The results are in and they were truly amazing. Our Centennial Rotarians gathered enough food to fill 225 bags of food for the families of Crawford Elementary School. There was even food leftover for the Crawford pantry.

Rotarians picked up the food from our always generous Centennial friends and neighbors, then drove it to Crawford Elementary. The food was sorted by type and expiration dates were checked. New bags were then filled for families with required items.

The three members who were primarily responsible and did an incredible job of organizing and supervising:  Matt McLaurin, Audrey Dill, and Jean Henry. Other Rotarians who worked on the project included John McCarthy, Karen Barry, Diana Whye, Randy Ernest, Cathy Smith, Marc Garfield, and Roxanna Hahn.  Big congrats to them for a job very well done!

The Whiskey Warmer Really Lit Up Our Foundation
Tim Eunice and his crew did an amazing job at Centennial's recent Whiskey Warmer. This was the first time for the event and we had no way of knowing whether or not it would be successful.

Well, to say the event was successful would be a serious understatement. Tim and his crew raised more money than they had even hoped.

As noted above, the Whiskey Warmer was a first-time event for the City of Centennial.  A range of whiskey choices was available to sample at a wide array of different booths.  All for the low, low price of $30/ticket.  Alternative drinks were also available at our booth, including beer, wine, and even hot toddies.  Tim reported that there were close to 1500 people at the event, all there to enjoy the beautiful weather, outstanding music, and a generous amount of dark whiskey.

Tim's helpers included Katherine Henchen-Hauff, Rad Elekovic, Charlie and Mary Alice Jackson, Karen Fleck, Kent Ostergard, John Bellum, and Ann West.

Big shout out to Tim and his crew for the great job they did and for the money they raised for our Club. This money will be added to the Club's Foundation account where it will ultimately be used to help fund some of our upcoming charitable events such as Santa Clothes.

Way to go, Centennial Rotarians! You guys rock!

Centennial Rotary Announces its Student of the Quarter from Arapahoe High School

Now that the pandemic is somewhat behind us, we are happy to announce that we are once again honoring an Arapahoe High School Student of the Quarter.

Congratulations to this quarter's student -- Sam Thompson.

Sam is not your typical high school senior working his way towards graduation in 2022.  In 2018, Sam lost his father, Doug Thompson, to leukemia. Sam decided he wanted to honor his father's legacy and set up his own charity to help fight blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. His solution  - turn his passion for running into an opportunity to raise money for LLS in the fight to eradicate these blood-borne diseases. As if that's not enough, Sam is one of the top students at Arapahoe High School and maintains a GPA of over 4.26.

Centennial Rotary to Help Get Needed Medical Supplies to Serbia
Rob Johnston and Rad Elekovic have teamed up on a project to raise money to send much-needed medical equipment and supplies to the Dr. Djordje Joanovic Hospital and the Dr. Vasa Savic Hospital for Pulmonary Disease in the Republic of Serbia. This will be done in partnership with Project C.U.R.E, which will provide the requisite 40-foot container, along with the equipment and supplies. Centennial Rotarians will help load them into the container for delivery to Serbia.

On November 2 our guest speaker was Baret Walker who will be our liaison on this project. She gave an outstanding presentation on what Project C.U.R.E is currently doing both internationally and here in America. She told us how "on average Project C.U.R.E. delivers four to six semi-truck sized containers per week packed with the medical equipment and supplies so desperately needed by local hospitals and clinics in under-served countries".

She also noted that "hundreds of healthcare professionals travel with Project C.U.R.E to provide medical treatment to communities in need and training to those dedicated to serving them".

Baret explained why it takes so much money to ship a container to a country such as Serbia. It's because it must first be trucked to an East Coast port, then shipped by boat to a European port. It  must then be loaded on a truck and driven to its final destination, in this case, landlocked Serbia.

Meet Our Newest Member
We are pleased to welcome our newest member, Mr. Michael (Double) Tapp.

Mike is a mortgage broker with Prosperity Home Mortgage. He is married to Betsy Tapp, and has been a member of the Denver Mile Hi Rotary Club since May 2000. He says that his goal is to continue fostering the ideals of service above self and that he hopes to be involved as much as possible in local community service projects.

"I have Rotary in my blood," Mike reported. He says his father and uncle were Rotarians and that he attended RYLA at age 16. He was a Rotary youth exchange student and even met his wife through Rotaract.

When you see Michael, be sure to welcome him and help make him feel glad he made the move to our club.
