This month’s Rotary theme is Community Economic Development. Lennard Tayco shares a wonderful example of how Centennial Rotary’s support helped a simple Christmas project grow into something much bigger.
Four years after completing my Rotary Youth Exchange year, during which the Rotary Club of Centennial was my host club, I was fortunate and had the opportunity to become President of the Rotaract Club of the University of Santo Tomas – AB Chapter for R.Y. 2016–2017.As I planned projects for my term, I thought, Why not partner with Centennial Rotary Club and bring the Santa Clothes project to the Philippines?
Mary Alice and Charlie are moving to North Carolina to be near their daughter, Jill. Mary Alice and Charlie have made significant contributions to Rotary and our Rotary Club. When they moved to the Denver area, they visited several Rotary Clubs and our good fortune is that they chose to join our club. Mary Alice thought they could make a difference in our club. She was right! Mary Alice is a natural leader and organizer. When she sees a need, she is right there to contribute. She dives in and asks, “ what can I do?”
Our Rotary family recently lost a dear friend and longtime member, Tom Buck. A charter member and past president, Tom helped shape the Rotary Club of Centennial and touched many lives through his friendship, service, and commitment to Rotary.
We are honored to share these remembrances from Tom’s fellow Rotarians and friends, Marc Garfinkel and John Peterson.
September was a busy month for the Board. We welcomed new member Brad Kellum, and finalized details to support the social committee with the 25th anniversary celebration. The board also approved funds to purchase a new laptop to support the club meetings and zoom capabilities. Thank you to Randy Beall and Candy Ostedgaard for all their help with researching computers to find the best fit and best price. We are hopeful the zoom and the online experience will be much improved.
🤝 Service in the City
After a quiet September, October has an abundance of opportunities to serve in our community:
Brad Kellum is a Memphis native and former paramedic firefighter who later attended law school. While in law school, he began making plant-based soap in his backyard and eventually grew his first company, Buff City Soap, to 300 locations nationwide before exiting in 2020. After moving to Colorado, Brad founded Solid Olive Soap Company, inspired by the region’s dry climate and its ability to produce world-class pure olive oil soap. Brad and his wife, Jennifer, are excited to become more involved in the Centennial community through Rotary.
